Blog #16: Fourth Wing

March 19, 2024Uncategorizedfenisha Standard

So I finally got around to reading Fourth Wing. I will admit it was much better than I expected. It was heavily recommended by TikTok though so I decided to read it before starting Throne of Glass.

I don’t think I’ll be posting any spoilers but just in case: SPOILER WARNING!

The dragons were definitely one of my favorite aspects of Fourth Wing. Dragon Riders don’t choose their dragon, dragons choose their rider. During matching or other tests, dragons can kill people if they find them disrespectful, or just generally don’t like them. You approach the wrong dragon? Dead. The dragons are huge and mega powerful. And Violet’s dragon, Tairn, is one of the most powerful, and his snide remarks to Violet make me laugh.

It took a minute for Violet to grow on me. But when she did, she did. I enjoyed reading about her using her knowledge to turn the rules to fit her own needs. Such as using throwing knives to climb during a test. And since she worked in the kitchen, she also researched who her opponents were going to be in scrimmage matches, and would poison them in different ways. Seeing her come into her own as the book progresses got better and better, and the second half of the book was much better than the first half.

Xaden is everything we want in our “enemies-to-lovers”, and love interest that are morally gray, and dark and brooding. Tells Violet to stay away, but can’t keep away himself and also has people watching her/following her around. His antics grow as Tairn pairs with Violet as his rider, and Tairn is mates with Xaden’s dragon. Either way, around the time Violet pairs with her dragon, I was falling in love with Xaden.

Chapter 30 is where the spicy-spice scene is. Definitely worth the buildup leading to this chapter, just saying.

I’m going to keep this short, because there’s a lot of spoilers if I write too much. I highly recommend reading Fourth Wing, and I’m excited to read book two, Iron Flame.

     And again, Chapter 30.

Signing Off,
