Blog #11: A Court of Mist and Fury
Oh my god. Oh my god. OH MY GOD.
So I finished book two in the ACOTAR series (A Court of Mist and Fury), and let me tell you, OH MY GOD. It was so so so good. I felt like there was more character building in book 2, and you felt more for these characters. In ACOTAR there always seemed to be a wall between the reader and Tamlin and Lucien, and they were really the only characters we were exposed to. It just didn’t click. I didn’t even feel much for Tamlin and Feyre together until the last half of the book. Though I will say in the last half, I really did fall in love with Tamlin. Little did I know what was to come in book 2.
The “bat boys” (as they’re called by readers of book 2) really drew me in. I could feel the friendship between them. I enjoyed the sections about their backstories, and how it shaped them. So of course I fell for them and their friendship. I enjoyed reading their banter and interactions. Speaking of character though, I don’t see many people talk about Amren and Mor. I adored these two female characters. I love how Amren’s description invites you in enough to love her character, but is also mysterious and has you wondering more and more about her past and her true motives. I kind of like how little information we get about her though, the mystery is what made me like her more and more. What I really appreciated about Mor was, even though she is a woman, the boys don’t treat her as lesser than. She can spar with the best of them, and is a force to be reckoned with.
But speaking of falling in love with Tamlin in book 1, I fell HARD for Rhysand in book 2. Tall, dark, and handsome with bat wings? His cheeky attitude, and how he ruffles Feyre’s fathers, ugh I just can’t. I die for men in books like him. I just melted. I’ll take Rhysand over Tamlin anyday. Tamlin who?
Speaking of Rhysand and his crew, I was glad to see them give Feyre tasks to do, not to show them that she could be powerful but to show HER she could. They wanted her to see her own worth, and that she was strong and capable, just like Amren and Mor. This is in comparison to Tamlin, who wanted to just put her on a shelf and be pretty, planning parties and painting.
One of the other things I wanted to touch on was how Feyre suffered from PTSD, which I rarely ever see in books when the main character goes through trials. She struggles with nightmares, and having to cope with what she did to survive. How she had to murder innocents, being injured and tortured by Amarantha. How she died, her neck being snapped, and was resurrected. I’m just really glad that was a theme in book 2, it really made me enjoy Feyre’s character, and I felt for her journey to recovery through book 2 with her new found friends.
Now onto other things:
****************************** SPOILERS***********************************
As I mentioned above, I fell hard for Rhysand. So you could only guess my excitement when Rhysand and Feyre hooked up, and confessed their love for each other. I about lost it when Rhysand admitted to her that they were Mates. Fucking. Mates. I about died of happiness. Then he goes on to explain how everything he did was to keep her safe and happy. How he was willing to let her marry Tamlin, even though they were mates, if it made her happy. How could I not love Rhysand even more?
Chapter 55, that’s all I’m going to say.
So yes, ACOMAF is such a good read, and I’d recommend it to anyone wanting a good fantasy/romance. It’s 1,000x better than book one, and I’m excited to read book 3.
“Not consort, nor wife, Feyre is High Lady of the Night Court, my equal in every way.”
