Blog #15: A Court of Frost and Starlight
Today I finished Book 4, A Court of Frost and Starlight, of the ACOTAR series, and this post will be a shorter one since it is a short and relatively easy read. So before I get into it I’ll list my favorite ACOTAR books in order from favorite to least favorite:
- A Court of Mist and Fury
- A Court of Wings and Ruin
- A Court of Frost and Starlight
- A Court of Thorns and Roses
ACOFAS was tremendously shorter than the books that came before it, with previous books being between 600-700 pages long. Book 4 was only 230 pages, and they go fast. There is no major conflict in this book, it’s mostly just the characters getting back into life after everything that happened with Amarantha, and then the war with Hybern. The book spans the days before the Winter Solstice, and how Feyre struggles with being financially well off and how to celebrate her new family for the holiday. She also begins to paint again, which is nice to see since she loved doing it so much.
Personal preference here, but I did not enjoy how the book switches between different character’s points of view. I really just like reading from a singular view, and just reading from them. It takes a bit for my brain to adjust to suddenly a different view and how the writing style changes. But that’s just me, if anyone reading this book doesn’t mind that then it’s a great way to get to know the other characters and their thoughts.
While what Tamlin did was wrong, I felt for him in this book. He lost everything and everyone, and is utterly alone. I really hope he finds happiness and his court can be fixed. I don’t think Feyre and him were ever meant to be, and the way he loves is vastly different than what she needed. But I hope he can find someone, and can be happy. I think he’s been punished enough.
Overall I think ACOFAS was a good book. It’s not my favorite, but it’s definitely still good. It’s a quick easy read, you can power through in a day if you wanted. It’s a breath of fresh air out of all the battles and tests in the first three books.
