Blog #5: A Court of Thorns and Roses
I started ACOTAR back in July, and I’m not going to lie the first 100 pages were rough. I kept trying to read it, but would read a page or two and put it down. I just couldn’t get into it. I just wasn’t buying what this book was trying to sell. And I just didn’t care too much about Feyre and her family’s stories or problems. It just seemed to drag a bit.
But around pages 100-150 things started picking up. You begin to wonder about this whole world in Prythian. I would say what initially caught my interest was the character Lucien. His physical features made him stand out, and his interactions with Feyre were interesting, and left you wanting to see more of these two characters together.
Around the 150 mark is when I started to get really interested in Tamlin. I won’t go into too much detail because you should read it for yourself and I don’t want to spoil everything. But Tamlin is IT. I said what I said, take what you will from that.
Prythian is such an interesting world to read about. The use of magic is interesting, and how it’s explained where you can taste it. The danger lurking in the forests, and how the whole world works is just interesting and lets you know how dangerous this place is. The social norms of the fae also lets you know how dangerous it is. Violence is a norm in every court, and Feyre being human leaves her open to harm’s way. She really has no way to fight against anything or anyone as a human. Even a clever human that hunts as good as she does.
The book is about 416 pages long, and after the 150 mark it took me three days to finish reading the book. I’ll be starting Book two in the coming days.
