Blog #3: The Silent Patient
I stumbled upon the book The Silent Patient when I was looking up top thriller books. It was listed on a website as a top book to read. I had never heard of the Author Alex Michaelides before, but the book had high reviews so I thought I’d order it and read it.
The book opens with the line: “But why does she not speak?” from Alcestis. And that is the whole question of the book. Why does Alicia not speak? Once a renown artist, she now sits in silence at an institution for murdering her husband. She stopped speaking after she murdered him. And when we aren’t reading how she got to this point in her life, we are reading about her Therapist Theo Faber who is very interested in this case, and trying to get something, anything really, out of Alicia.
I’m not really sure where I thought this book would go, but I was pleasantly surprised with how the story went on and the ending. No worries, there are spoilers here. But the story definitely keeps you in your seat, and wondering how and where this story is going to go. Michaelides does a good job of capturing the reader’s attention, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that likes suspense/thriller books.
Overall, like I mentioned it was a good read. I finished it in two days because I couldn’t put it down. The Silent Patient is 323 pages, and can easily be read in 2-3 days.
