Blog #28: Crescent City House of Sky and Breath
Spoilers!
Okay so this is probably going to be a shorter blog post, mainly because there is so much to cover, but I don’t want to spoil everything. Just a few spoilers.
So let’s start off light and fresh. It takes a hot minute, but finally Bryce and Hunt seal the deal and have not just a relationship but also have sex. They were sorta awkward at the beginning of the book, even Bryce’s Mom mentions how things seem tense with them and why she won’t just be with him, in a relationship. It finally happens though and let me just say, book two has significantly more spice than book one. Like, a good amount of spice, makes up for book one.
I still don’t get everyone’s love for Ruhn. Same as my thoughts about him in book one, he just has a very bland personality. Physically the way they describe him is attractive, but that’s about it. Him and Bryce have made up and care for each other but that’s really it. While I see a lot of love for Ruhn, I personally fell for Tharion, a Merpeople. He’s funny and witty, and everyone seems to like his company. He also refers to Bryce as legs, a cute little nickname because she’s on land and has nice legs. He is a bit of a fuck-boy, but if you were a mega handsome merman wouldn’t you fuck around too? I also feel like it’s an interesting idea to have it where for a period of time, Merpeople can have legs and dwell on land. The con though of this is if he stays on land too long he loses his mer form and gills.
And then there is Ithan, and he gets kicked out of his wolf pack, which is devastating to any wolf. His goal is to find out if his brother, that died, is still okay in the afterlife. We get to see him grow from book one, and he makes up with Bryce and even goes to live with Ruhn and his group of friends. This warmed my heart, and I hope he continues to find what, or who, he’s looking for.
So does everything revolve around Danika? Even in book two, everything is about Danika. At this point I’m leaning towards Bryce not even knowing who Danika was. Does Danika have 40 hours to her days and everyone else has a mere 24 hours. How could she be canoodling with the rebel cause, doing research, working her job, have a secret Mate, AND go out partying with her friends? Frankly, I wish I had the energy to do all the stuff Danika does.
Also we’re introduced to a new character, Sophie. It’s not a spoiler to give this away but she died saving her brother because even though she had magic powers, he had the ultimate powers. Though I’m not really sure why no one wanted Sophie for her power. Seemed a waste to have her murdered. And now all these different people want him for their own uses. Bryce gets involved in this case of finding this boy, because he’s a child and no child should be left alone. I like this quality in Bryce. Everyone is talking about how to save him but keep how he can help all their own causes with him. Not Bryce though, she wants to find him and give him a life, and be safe.
There’s a lot of positives in book 2. There are a lot of betrothals that have to be worked out, Bryce becomes an official princess, and the overarching theme of helping the rebels or forming their own group themselves. Also I appreciated that Hunt and Bryce together, and as mentioned above, we gets a variety of spice.
This is all I’m going to cover because there’s so many spoilers for this book, and it’s a really good book. I would give it a solid 9/10.
