Blog #20: Touch of Darkness

August 14, 2024Uncategorizedfenisha Standard

So I took a break from reading all of the books in the Sarah J Maas universe, and read the first book in a series called Touch of Darkness. It’s a fantasy, romance book about mythology in current times, and how Hades and Persephone become a couple.

I did enjoy the book, though I will say it is more of a stereotypical romance book. In fact it reminded me a lot of Fifty Shades of Grey. Tall, dark, and handsome man with excessive wealth that worships her. And the female being someone that keeps to herself, and works in writing and reading. The main character Persephone falls for Hades pretty quickly, and Hades definitely had an eye on her. When they first meet she doesn’t even know she was talking to Hades, and she learns to play cards and loses, and that’s how she learns she was playing with Hades.

I do enjoy the stereotypical romance aspects though. I even enjoy the virgin trope. Which this book has, Persephone is a virgin and Hades takes good care of her.

In the book Persephone lives her life as a human, and hides that she’s a Goddess. She does this because she wants to live a normal life. She uses glamor from her mother’s magic to hide who she is. I really liked this because it gave a different perspective to humans and Gpods/Goddesses to Persephone. And she uses this to give Hades a different perspective on how he runs the Underworld.

It’s a short read so I don’t have too much to say. I will say if you’re a sucker for romance I would highly recommend this book. There is three books in the series and I’ve just started book two. Also, who doesn’t love Persephone and Hades together?

Signing Off,
