Blog #13: Reading Suggestions for the New Year

January 1, 2024Uncategorizedfenisha Standard

I’m super excited for the new year to come, and I have a stack of “to be read” books. This stack includes: A Throne of Glass, Fourth Wing, and Haunting Adeline. I’m ready to go into the New Year with a goal of reading for the next 12 months. But aside from my future goals, I wanted to go over some books I read this last year that I would recommend to others looking to make a TBR list for 2024.

Here is the list of books I recommend and I’ll discuss further:

  1. Silent Patient
  2. Girl, Interrupted
  3. ACOTAR

Silent Patient: I’ve talked about the Silent Patient here before. But it truly is one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. It’s a Psychological/Suspense Thriller. The story was compelling, and did a good job of pulling you into the story and wondering what was happening. It goes back and forth from the two main characters past and present, and with every page leaves you wanting more and wondering where the story is going, or what the details have to do with the story. So yes, I recommend The Silent Patient if you enjoy Thrillers and want a story that keeps you on your toes.

Girl, Interrupted: Most people know this story from the movie Girl, Interrupted. And while the movie stays true to the book in most aspects, it adds more drama and a cohesive fictional plot; whereas the book is a true memoir and there isn’t a set plot but each chapter discusses different topics about being in a mental hospital for almost two years. She discusses her diagnosis for example, or talks about the day to day in the ward. And while this story might not be for everyone, I recommend it because it gives a rare insight into what it’s like dealing with mental illness and trying to get back into life.

ACOTAR: So for this one I’m recommending the book series, not just the first book. I will say my favorite of the series is A Court of Mist and Fury, but A Court of Rings and Ruin is a close second. I’ve mentioned in a previous blog that you need to get further in book one (A Court of Thorns and Roses) before it gets good about halfway in. The books are Fantasy and Romance, and the world Sarah J Maas creates is amazing. I love the different style of Courts and the clothing and powers that go with each court. I just love this book series through and through, and definitely recommend anyone looking for a new fantasy series to get into.

So these are the three books I recommend for 2024. I’d love if anyone has any suggestions, to comment below! Hope everyone has a great New Year’s!

     Signing Off,

     Fenisha
